The Tent of David

Psalm 23

I ‘ve been thinking about David’s perspective from this place.

He sang what God said about Himself  THEN what He said about David.

The order of revelation is critical for my own heart.

In other words, first I have to make sure the cup is right-side up and not face down on the table.  What do I call Him?

His Name is who He is and Who is He doesn’t change even though my feelings and circumstances do.

From the perspective of His Name, everything is gained to overflowing or lost.

“For from the rising of the sun to its setting My name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to My Name, and a pure offering. For My Name will be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts. (Mal. 1:11)

National Day of Prayer

History is recording this day…what will it say?

Do you fast?  Do you pray?  If so…do it on Thursday!

“There are moments in history when a door for massive change opens. Great revolutions for good or for evil occur in the vacuum created by these openings. It is in these times that key men and women, and even entire generations, risk everything to become the hinge of history—the pivotal point that determines which way the door will swing.

We believe that America is in a pivotal moment in history. The question is what will this generation do with that moment? Brothers and sisters, the nations are shaking. Economies are falling. America’s constitution is being shredded by ideologues, who seek to alter the godly foundations laid by our forefathers. In moments like this, when there is no human recourse, no political solution, God gives His prescription: “Gather My saints together to Me, those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice . . . Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you” (Ps. 50:5,15). Again in Joel 2, the prescription given is to “Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly; gather the people” (Joel 2:15).

The National Day of Prayer takes on possibly more spiritual significance this year than at any other time in our nation’s history. It seems that in 2010, everything hangs in the balance. It is a year of transition and consequence. We want to see the Church, every ethnic group and every denomination, setting one day apart to fast and pray with humility and penetrating personal repentance, asking God to put an end to the Church’s and the nation’s moral defiance of Him, and to send a great spiritual awakening.

Humility, fasting and tears, a sincere rending of the heart, and sacrifice must mark this National Day of Prayer. We need undeserved mercy, not empty promises of a great retirement plan in the mirage of our American dream. Shut it all down and call upon God to turn our nation in repentance to Him. We must have righteous leaders in every sphere of society. Promotion comes only from the Lord, and only an appeal to heaven can loose such favor.

We must turn our hearts from the pursuit of wealth to compassion for the poor. We must work justly to answer our great national sin of abortion. We must see a reversal in the Church of her easy agreement with divorce. What can end the plague of pornography that sweeps our pulpits and our people? It has always been “If my people will humble themselves and pray” (2 Chr. 7:14).

This National Day of Prayer is not meant to be just another good idea. Let everyone cry to the Lord with fasting. May God grant us revival in our day of trouble. TheCall, the International House of Prayer of Kansas City, and the prayer movements of America unite wholeheartedly behind James and Shirley Dobson and the National Day of Prayer.”  Opening Letter by Bickle, Engle, Kim

This is our generation and this day may be removed from the next one.  What will be our legacy?

“For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers…” (Acts 13:36)

Scandalous Meditation #19

“Enter by the narrow gate…for the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”  Matthew 7:13-14

The Tent of David

Divine Order of Governmental Authority

I’ve been thinking a lot about Isaiah 55:9 lately:
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth..

  • the heavens are really, really high
  • so far above the earth I can’t even get my head around it
  • here’s some of what we can see (visual aide - videos_awe.html)
  • there is no one who has seen everything that’s out there – not just the vast empty space but think about the created heavenly bodies that have never been seen by the human eye – the heavens are really, really high

so are My ways higher than your ways…

  • His priorities
  • His way to do things
  • His power and ability
  • His way to rule everything
  • He (Creator and Uncreated God) and I (the creation) have nothing in common except for Christ alone

and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

  • in comparison I’m not just mentally challenged but I have no brain activity
  • my thoughts go in one direction at a time (if I can concentrate long enough) but His go perfectly in all directions, throughout all ages, filling all space and time at once
  • I can’t even think about His thoughts – I don’t have the mental capacity to do it in the natural
  • His thoughts interact with His creation in love

I plan to start a new series of posts on the Tent of David soon.

If you want to start without me, take a look at I and II Chronicles.

King David got a glimpse of the ways of the Lord and ruled his kingdom based on the revelation he got inside a tent.  His proclamation in Psalm 27 highlights the activity of the enemy outside, the thirsty condition of his own heart and the answer to every horizontal problem - go big – go vertical.

He seems to say, “Get up into that higher realm and seek the Lord and wait on Him!”

If you’re saying this doesn’t make any sense, I’m with you. If you think this is old news check out Acts 15:16.

More to come…

See ya’ soon!

MATTHEW 5:19

Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”   What did you find inside the Narrow Garden Gate?

Apostolic “Call to Arms”

We’re in a spiritual battle and the Sword is the only offensive weapon mentioned with our Armor of Light. (Rom 13:12; Eph 6)

When it comes to being able to speak the Word – I feel a bit defenseless because I have so little of it memorized.

The apostles prayed several prayers that have not fully come to pass in the Scriptures.  This indicates the prayers were not only for the early church but also for those yet to come….for our generation.  The Eternal Word is still going out to produce what He has planned for it!  (Isa. 55:10-11)

Here’s an example from Ephesians 1 with emphasis on two sections for my personal growth:

“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, having THE EYES OF YOUR HEART ENLIGHTENED, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints…” (Eph 1:17-18)

I memorize by reading, writing, saying, singing and praying it back to the Lord.  By doing this, they are becoming mine! (Psalm 119:172)

I also listen to prayers being sung, spoken or prayed on CD.

“To the CHOIRMASTER: according to Lilies [the tune?].  A Maskil [don't know what this is, if you do please tell me!] of the Sons of Korah [Korah had many sons who wrote songs and played instruments in the House]; A LOVE SONG.

MY HEART overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the King; MY TONGUE is like the pen of a ready writer.” (Psalm 45:1)

Faith comes by hearing so to believe Truth, I have to hear it!   And not only once but over and over because this is the language of heaven…the very Words of an uncreated eternal God – needless to say, this is not my native tongue.  It takes awhile before I have ears to hear.
