Scandalous Meditation #19

“Enter by the narrow gate…for the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”  Matthew 7:13-14

MATTHEW 5:21

Jesus said,“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’”  What did you find inside the Narrow Garden Gate?

Here’s something to do for fun…

When I found out there are at least 155+ chapters in the Scripture that are mostly about the End Times, it was a wake up call!

If that’s news to you, open this file and paste it into an Excel spread sheet -  End_Times_Overview_Outline_pdf

From Scripture, read an entire book, a chapter or verse and try to figure out where it belongs on the timeline.

If you want to start with a book – try Jude

If you want to start with a chapter try any of the following – Matthew 24, Mark 13 or Luke 21

If you want to start with a verse  try these - Ephesians 1:10 or II Peter 3:3-4

I use e-Sword and enjoy that coffee!

The Tent of David

Divine Order of Governmental Authority

I’ve been thinking a lot about Isaiah 55:9 lately:
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth..

  • the heavens are really, really high
  • so far above the earth I can’t even get my head around it
  • here’s some of what we can see The Awe Factor of God – Francis Chan
  • there is no one who has seen everything that’s out there – not just the vast empty space but think about the created heavenly bodies that have never been seen by the human eye – the heavens are really, really high

so are My ways higher than your ways…

  • His priorities
  • His way to do things
  • His power and ability
  • His way to rule everything
  • He (Creator and Uncreated God) and I (the creation) have nothing in common except for Christ alone

and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

  • in comparison I’m not just mentally challenged but I have no brain activity
  • my thoughts go in one direction at a time (if I can concentrate long enough) but His go perfectly in all directions, throughout all ages, filling all space and time at once
  • I can’t even think about His thoughts – I don’t have the mental capacity to do it in the natural
  • His thoughts interact with His creation in love

Take a look at I and II Chronicles.  David knew about Light!

King David got a glimpse of the ways of the Lord and ruled his kingdom based on the revelation he got inside a tent.  His proclamation in Psalm 27 highlights the activity of the enemy outside, the thirsty condition of his own heart and the answer to every horizontal problem - go big – go vertical.

He seems to say, “Get up into that higher realm and seek the Lord and wait on Him!”

If you’re saying this doesn’t make any sense, I’m with you. If you think this is old news check out Acts 15:16.

More to come…

See ya’ soon!

“Enter by the narrow gate…for the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”  Matthew 7:13-14

MATTHEW 5:19

Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”   What did you find inside the Narrow Garden Gate?

Apostolic “Call to Arms”

We’re in a spiritual battle and the Sword is the only offensive weapon mentioned with our Armor of Light. (Rom 13:12; Eph 6)

When it comes to being able to speak the Word – I feel a bit defenseless because I have so little of it memorized.

The apostles prayed several prayers that have not fully come to pass in the Scriptures.  This indicates the prayers were not only for the early church but also for those yet to come….for our generation.  The Eternal Word is still going out to produce what He has planned for it!  (Isa. 55:10-11)

Here’s an example from Ephesians 1 with emphasis on two sections for my personal growth:

“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, having THE EYES OF YOUR HEART ENLIGHTENED, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints…” (Eph 1:17-18)

I memorize by reading, writing, saying, singing and praying it back to the Lord.  By doing this, they are becoming mine! (Psalm 119:172)

I also listen to prayers being sung, spoken or prayed on CD.

“To the CHOIRMASTER: according to Lilies [the tune?].  A Maskil [don't know what this is, if you do please tell me!] of the Sons of Korah [Korah had many sons who wrote songs and played instruments in the House]; A LOVE SONG.

MY HEART overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the King; MY TONGUE is like the pen of a ready writer.” (Psalm 45:1)

Faith comes by hearing so to believe Truth, I have to hear it!   And not only once but over and over because this is the language of heaven…the very Words of an uncreated eternal God – needless to say, this is not my native tongue.  It takes awhile before I have ears to hear.

The Gospel According to State Farm

Okay…so today I was helping at a local emergency crisis support program and the following scenario happened:

A young woman, coming for help, accidentally hit one of the volunteer’s car in the parking lot.  (Damage reports varied according to witnesses.)  Evidentially, he asked for her contact information and insurance card according to state requirements for accidents in the parking lot.  While in the waiting room, she became upset about the whole ordeal and through tears exclaimed, “I’m not a Christian.  I thought Christians were supposed to be nice!”

I thought about this a long time when I got home.  Nice – interesting!

He wasn’t abusive or even very upset about it.  What he did was required by law.  I wonder if she was in a bar parking lot and did the same thing, would the same response from the guy be “mean”?  What about the grocery store?  Or Independent Records parking lot?  Or the library?  When does the law apply?

Really, this isn’t the part of her statement that interested me the most.  It was the first part, “I’m not a Christian.”  Does she think God is the ”nicest Christian”?  Does she think He will not require anything of her – ever?  He’s The Judge.  He’s not nice!

I don’t know what she thinks, but I did get to talk to her about Him and invite her to my church with a bunch of other not very nice Christians.

A side note, one of the volunteers accidentally said “&%$!” today.  She’s the nicest lady!

Have ya’ heard the one about…?

THE HALL OF FAMOUS JOKES presents

 The Suit

So this man wants a new suit, and he goes to a tailor. The tailor puts him up on the platform surrounded by all those mirrors, takes his measurements, and says “OK, come beck in a veek, I’ll heve de suit ready.”

In a week the man returns to the tailor shop. “Here’s your suit,” says the tailor.

“Well, I’d like to try it on,” says the customer. So he goes in the dressing room, takes his clothes off, and starts putting on the suit. It’s all but impossible to get into the thing! Finally, he has it on, comes out, and gets up on the platform again.

He looks at himself, frowns, and says to the tailor, “This suit is terrible! Look at this! The jacket sleeves are so long they’re flopping! But the shoulders are so narrow I can’t even breathe! The pants legs are baggy! But at the same time, the pants squeeze my hips!” On and on he complains.

“Vait a minute,” says the tailor, interrupting him. “Here’s vut you’ll do. You’ll go like dis…” And the tailor shows him how to hold in his sleeves, hunch up his shoulders, tuck in the baggy pants with one hand, all at the same time, to “make it fit”.

A few minutes later the man emerges from the shop onto the street. He’s hobbling down the sidewalk, trying to walk while still holding his sleeve, hunching his shoulders, tucking the pants, etc, etc.

Two old ladies waiting for a bus across the street notice him as he struggles along.

“Oy!” says one of the ladies, shaking her head in pity. “Look at that poor man!”

“Yes,” says her companion, also shaking her head. “But doesn’t his suit fit nice!”

I like this joke because it describes how I feel about “voluntary weakness” (fasting, praying, giving, forgiving, etc.)

If I’m successful, as a primary goal, in all the things the world would have me pursue (career, finances, fame, etc.) I would look funny.  I could make it “fit” on the outside but in order to do that, I would have to spiritually walk like the guy in the joke.

However, if I’m successful, as a primary goal, in what the Lord would have me pursue (spiritual poverty, meekness, mercy, etc.) I’m guaranteed to look foolish to the world.  No way my earthly suit will fit!
